Vulcana — Terms & licences

Vulcana shows public scientific data. It is not a warning system. Here is who sells it, under which licence, and where every piece of data comes from.

1. Seller

2. Licence

Vulcana is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

3. Not a warning system

Vulcana is an informational and entertainment app. It is not an official earthquake, tsunami or volcano warning system, and it must not be used for safety, emergency, evacuation or aviation decisions. Always follow the instructions of official authorities, such as the Italian Civil Protection Department (Protezione Civile), INGV, your national authorities, airports and airlines.

4. What the data is, and is not

  • Earthquakes are shown as published by INGV, USGS and EMSC. They can be minutes late, incomplete, revised or unavailable.
  • Volcano “unrest” is our own calculation from the INGV earthquake catalogue. It is not an official alert level. The aviation colour code (“VONA”) is copied from INGV’s published notices.
  • Airport colours come from each airport’s weather report (METAR). They say nothing about whether an airport is open or whether flights operate.
  • Weather comes from MET Norway forecasts and is a model, not an observation.
  • The radio is a piece of music. It interprets data as sound and is not a measurement.

5. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, SIA SPACE is not liable for decisions made on the basis of data shown in the App. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer, or liability that cannot be limited by law.

None of these organisations endorses Vulcana.

Apple, iPhone and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Other names belong to their owners.

8. Law

These terms are governed by the law of Latvia, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live.
